Johnson & Wales University will announce its new president today, replacing founding president Art Gallagher, who left in November to be vice president of Novant Health Foundation in Charlotte.
A source at the university says that the new leader is Robert C. Mock Jr., who was vice president of student affairs at the University of Kentucky. He will begin his new job Sept. 30.
Tarun Malik, who has led the campus during the national search for Gallagher’s replacement, will return to his previous position as vice president of the Charlotte campus.
A statement from Johnson & Wales’ main office in Providence, R.I., said Mock’s main areas of focus would be developing a campus plan to support retention and graduation rates, academic programming, student engagement, affordability and relationships in the Charlotte community.
His career in higher education began in 1995 at the University of Arkansas as a staff member in continuing education. In 2001, he became associate dean and then associate vice provost for student affairs. He has been vice president of student affairs at Kentucky since 2010.
